Hello, my name is Leilani Howe and I am a sophomore in GCU 114 Fall 2014 class. I have chosen to do my findings on the Navajo Reservation. I am Native American (Navajo) and I take a lot of interest in my culture and history. There is still a lot I do not know about my own history and I plan on finding out more about it as I continue to research more about my ancestors past. Since I never grew up on the Reservation, I was always curious about where I came from. Throughout elementary school and going into secondary education, I never really learned anything about my culture because I went to school with a minority of Navajo students. Going into my freshman year of high school, I transferred to a private Native American school called Navajo Preparatory School in Farmington, NM. At the school, I began to learn things about my culture that I never knew before. It blew me away and I was fascinated by what I was learning. Learning about my culture has certainly expanded my knowledge and I look forward to learning more things about my ancestors.
